The holiday sales are more or less over, many companies have sales at random - probably to raise money to finance development of new plugins. Sounds on the internet are compromised for the most part, you can still get a basic impression but the devil's in the details. I think your best move will be to create a MIDI track and then try out demos of the things you are interested in. That multiplies the variables by umpty bajillion or so. Obviously, all of these can be tracked, exported as audio and adjusted after the fact with various plugins. It's easy to bring up an instrument in Sample Tank.Īrturia's Augmented Strings is nice but I think it is both sampled and modeled - hence the Augmented. My SampleTank 4 is full of individual orchestra instruments from versions 2.5 and 3. I have IK Miroslav Philharmonik 2, another sale goodie. I have a bit of their free stuff as well, too busy lately to give any of it a spin but it's free so worst case it can just be tossed. I just got Spitfire's Epic Chorus, haven't fired it up yet but the demos were impressive and it was on sale for $17 so I bit. In a different way since no bow, the same is true for woodwinds (maybe the embouchure?) and horns. With strings, the bows used, there the mics are set, what the mics are and the room used to record are all factors. It's difficult to write about tones since our uses/preferences may be very different and there are so many variables.
